Retail Store Manager

Glasswing is a design shop in Seattle, that is being built to inspire the community around us. Our project extends to a diverse range of mediums including clothing, furniture, plants and artwork. The in-store experience at Glasswing aims to elicit an emotional connection by engaging all five senses and continually providing new and unexpected experiences. To build community we frequently host events that allow people to connect in small groups and learn by doing. Through our shop of carefully considered objects from designers that we love we hope to inspire people to lead a life of exploration that is filled with creativity and passion. 

Job Summary

The Store Manager role is a new position for us that will require a great deal of multitasking and collaboration. We are looking for a new team member to help develop our in-store sales team while also playing an impactful role in customer service and selling. In addition to managing the sales floor, this team member will oversee development to help us grow internally. It will be important to create a system that will allow us to evaluate personnel, plan training and reward improvement.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Planning: Creates a HR plan with development, training and growth for the selling team that’s inspirational and comprehensive. Works closely and effectively with the owners on staffing needs and handles responsibilities associated with payroll and scheduling.

  • Assessing: Utilizes team force ranks to diagnose training needs, providing on-going training opportunities

  • Operational: Manages shipment, supply levels and cash controls. Ensures merchandising and displays are maintained and that strong restock systems are upheld consistently.

  • Safety: Establishes and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • Personality: Stimulates growth in self and others. Establishes clear expectations, sets an example through action. Creates and fosters an engaging environment where all employees are treated fairly and respectfully.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3+ years of retail experience, preferably with at least 1 year of management and ideally in a boutique setting

  • Sense of initiative with strong leadership capabilities

  • Ability to achieve results both independently and collaboratively with clear team communication and follow-through skills

  • Flexibility and the ability to handle change in a positive manner
